SPEAKER'S RACE & THE LAW

AND A REVIEW OF POLITICAL REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

This January the Texas House will elect a new Speaker for the first time in 10 years. Join us for our September Roundtable for a detailed analysis of the laws governing the process of electing a Speaker of the Texas House, as well as a discussion of the political implications of a new Speaker. The Roundtable will also include a panel on PAC reporting requirements in advance of the election.

Panel discussions will include:

  • Harvey Kronberg of Quorum Report and Mike Hailey of Capitol Inside. Kronberg and Hailey will provide their thoughts on the Speaker's race from a political and practical perspective. They will discuss issues such as the tight race for Speaker; the projected make up of the House post election and how that will impact the role of the Speaker; as well as the impact of a new Speaker on the House rules and procedures.

  • Ethics attorneys Ed Shack and Margo Cardwell will review the upcoming PAC reporting requirements in advance of the November elections and will include a Q&A in the event you have specific questions.
